Self Study Work

Tasks:

1. Understanding the theory of plate tectonics.

This is a note making and understanding homework. You will need to get to grips with:

  • The difference between the theory of continental drift and plate tectonics.
  • Evidence for the theory of both continental drift and plate tectonics.
  • Diagrams used to show the cause of plate movements, internal earth structure and major plate boundaries.
  • Key terminology related to earth structure.

As a starting point read and make notes from:
http://www.physicalgeography.net/fundamentals/10i.html
then read
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plate_tectonics
for more detail on driving forces and plate movement.
Excellent additional reference is this online textbook called 'This Dynamic Earth' by Kious and Tilling.

The key to this work is understanding rather than just copying. To ensure this I will be doing a short test next lesson.

2. Profile An Earthquake
Complete an earthquake profile sheet for your allocated earthquake. Don't forget to include evidence for the profile and its source.
